The EU General Data Protection Regulation has been around since 2016, but enforcement will only commence from May this year. The rules are tough and create an environment where companies need to explain to customers why they want their personal data and what they intend to use it for. Penalties for data misuse will be severe under GDPR with fines of up to 4% of global revenue now on the table as a possibility. It is worth remembering that GDPR does not only affect European citizens. If your company is using any customer data and any part of your corporate processing takes place in the EU then you need to be compliant.
Many companies have been rushing to ensure they will be compliant in May, but Teleperformance has been working on GDPR since the day it was published. In fact, we recently received Binding Corporate Rules (BCRs) approval as both a data controller and data processor from the French Data Protection Authority, CNIL, making Teleperformance the first company in the industry to attain this critical data protection compliance status in the European Union.
That’s right, there is no other company focused on the customer experience anywhere in the world that has this level of regulatory approval. Our BCRs have jumpstarted our continuous passion for privacy and security to power our efforts in keeping our clients and their customers’ data protected.
One of the great advantages of our BCR approval for our clients is that they can always feel assured that their customer data will be protected. They can carry on delivering business as usual knowing that our team has their data protected and under control, whatever type of data transfer is taking place.
Teleperformance treats privacy and security as a priority, and because of this, we make sure that we are aligned with new and developing global regulations and standards. We want to ensure that you and your clients have peace of mind and a sense of business security – in addition to offering the type of operational flexibility that allows innovation in a fast-moving environment.
